“We’re looking at a feedlot application now in Northwestern Minnesota, 21,000 animal units. If you can conceive that… That’s equivalent to a town of 100,000 people. In the middle of Norman County, where they don’t have the water capacity to feed and water the cattle, and they have to spread the manure over 4 townships. In the middle of the Wild Rice River.”

“All that happens in the global marketplace is to push down on prices and send all the costs to the local community. So we get our air trashed, our water trashed, the land gets taken over by foreign investors and we get nothing out of it.”

“We had a public meeting in Buffalo and they [Pipestone] brought their crew with them. They said, we’re gonna sponsor everything, we’re gonna have a hog roast every fall for the people, we’re going to pave the roads. We’re going to hire 17 college graduates, and they’re all going to build houses in Buffalo. It’ll be a boom for Buffalo, and it just went on and on – everything’s going to be so great. But that’s not their business model. Their business model is they bring foreign guest workers and they have them work until their visas are up and then they send them back and get new workers.”

“My daughter-in-law’s Native American from the Spirit Lake tribe. She talked to somebody out there and they got a hold of their Environmental Quality Group and it spread like wildfire out there. The tribe was really concerned about the lake itself. Devil's Lake has quadrupled in size since about 1993. There are tons of flooded roads and land all over these two townships. It's a horrible place for a hog facility.”
